Xbox Game Studios and Kojima Productions are working together to create "a video game for Xbox like no one has ever experienced or seen before leveraging the power of the cloud". No details other than that were provided by Hideo Kojima made an appearance at the Xbox & Bethesda Game Showcase earlier today to make the announcement.
Here's that snippet from the presentation courtesy of IGN.
“There is a game I have always wanted to make,” Kojima says. “It’s a completely new games, one that no one has ever experienced or seen before. I’ve waited very long for the day when I could finally start to create it. With Microsoft‘s cutting edge cloud technology and the change in the industry’s trend, it has now become possible to challenge myself to to make this never-before-seen concept.
“It may take some time, but I’m looking forward to teaming up with Xbox Game Studios and hope to bring you some exciting news in the future,” Kojima adds.
As per above, seeing Phil Spencer and Hideo Kojima working together is very cool news - and with Microsoft's Azure cloud network being at the forefront of cloud technology no doubt this will be something truly ambitious. So yeah, we'll have to wait and see on this one.
In other Kojima Productions rumblings the studio is rumoured to be working on a horror game called Overdose, in addition to Death Stranding 2 - which is a lot for what is essentially an indie outfit.
As a unique aside to all of the above, the rumour mill was swirling ahead of the show, especially in relation to the news that Kojima would be working on something exclusively with Xbox, which sent diehard fans (of the anti Xbox kind) into a tizzy, leading them to create this petition at Change.org to actively community-cancel the game.
Kojima is betraying his loyal fans. He has been blinded by greed. We must help him come back to the winning side. PLEASE SHARE THIS PETITION EVERYWHERE.
Not everyone has good enough internet to stream games. Not everyone has enough money to buy a new console or build a new pc. Please Kojima, dont leave us.
At the time of posting, the petition had some 1496 signatures.
