Featuring turn-based battles for the first-time, and a focus on the sort of RPG-ness that entails, the latest Yakuza: Like a Dragon trailer 'How Will You Rise?' is nothing short of insane. Even for a Yakuza game. We're talking protagonist Ichiban Kasuga becoming a chef and "seasoning" foes with pepper (that causes damage numbers to fly) and putting on some parachute pants to break-dance all over some fools.
Whilst wearing two gold watches to boot. Check it out, it looks, well, awesome.
In less than 2 minutes, the new “How Will You Rise?” trailer takes players on a journey through the streets of Yokohama, Japan, the new setting for Yakuza: Like a Dragon. In the video, we see Ichiban Kasuga, the first main new protagonist in the history of the mainline Yakuza series, alongside some of his loyal party members, Nanba, Saeko, and Adachi, as they swap between just a few of the 20+ unique Jobs available throughout the game. In what can only be described as a meta worldview, Ichiban envisions himself the lead character in an RPG and his ensuing skirmishes take on the form of turn-based battles. If you’ve ever wanted to don a chef’s hat and sprinkle enemies with a dash of pepper to finish them off in style, we’re happy to say that no game other than Yakuza: Like a Dragon will offer you that experience.
And the premise, using real-world "jobs" as a means to RPG, is very cool -- and with a new party system this is perhaps the weirdest and best looking Yakuza game to date. That is, if you've been hankering for some classic turn-based action in modern-day Japan.
Yakuza: Like a Dragon launches November 13 on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC -- plus it'll be there day one for the Xbox Series X launch. Which is currently listed as "November". A PS5 version will also arrive at a later date.
