XIII is a first-person shooter that made its debut back in 2003, where it became something of a cult classic thanks in part to its original (for the time) cel-shaded look. Based on a graphic novel series it follows the story of man who lost his memory and then finds himself in the midst of a global conspiracy. With a remake released in 2019, it was met with criticism and backlash from fans.
It was also plagued by technical issues, to the point where an official apology was issued by publisher Microids. But, it looks like the remake is getting its own remake, with a new developer Tower Five (Lornsword: Winter Chronicle) at the helm. A major rework covering art, enemy AI, sound design, and even multiplayer will arrive as a free update for those that own the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC version of the game on September 13.
And in addition to this XII is also coming to Nintendo Switch on the same day, and you can see the changes in the trailer below. Though we're not sure why there isn't a 60fps PC or next-gen trailer to showcase the changes to accompany this new look.
Publisher Microids notes that this version will "mark the end of the game’s development" so here's to the XIII remake remake living up to the original's cult classic status.
