The ‘World’s Most Powerful Console’. A clear marketing line if we’ve ever heard one. But, it’s also the best way to describe the Xbox One X. And if we’re being totally honest - whilst also showing our age - we haven’t been this impressed with a console in terms of raw high-end game performance since the days of the Neo Geo.

But whereas that beast from the 1990s was the opposite of affordable, the Xbox One X offers the equivalent output of a high-end gaming PC at a fraction of the cost.

I bought one cos I'm a sucker for new gadgets, traded in my old xbox though so that made it a bit easier to justify. I really like it though, games look great but everything loads faster and just feels like a better experience all round. Its a heavy sucker too, I guess cos the power brick is inside the console now, but I was quite suprised at the weight of it. Previously PS4 was my platform of choice for 3rd party multi-platform stuff, but its swung back to XBox now

Yeah I do, only tried AC: Origins on it so far but I've got Gears 4 as well. AC: Origins looks amazing though, especially with the extra highlights and stuff HDR brings, makes something like the sun rising up over the top of a pyramid just look stunning and the view distance is super impressive too

lol... stop trollin' spook :P

yeah man AC:O is a showcase for HDR and an amzing open world... even stuff like the flames at dusk... I spend half my time just walking around and taking it all in...

def check out Gears 4... once you get past the first few hours the environments and effect are next level

Crazy to think a 1 terrabyte hdd is not enough. How big are games these days?!

If a game is ~40gig on the drive, that's 25 games.... how many games are you playing at once!

only about 700gig is available, the xbox puts aside about 300gig for system stuff, and Gears of War 4 is 100gig with the 4k patch so if thats average then it'll fill up pretty quick. The 4k version of Quantum Break is like 180gig, which admitedly is insane but still, a few of those and you're out of hard drive space

Right, that makes much more sense, thanks.

That brings up a whole slew of other problems, like a decent internet connection. Wow, imagine having to DL 100gig to play a game.

NBN ain't bad for this, but I wish there was a 1Gbit upgrade pathway (for those of us on NBN-lite) because its going to get slow fast the way things are going.

I kinda want one of these.
I don't even think I'd use it but I still want one.

You wouldn't regret it reload. The backwards and forwards compatibility of the Xbox library means there's thousands of games to play, but with the super sampling it does, it means even older games look incredible, regardless if you're on a 1080p TV or using 4K

Yeh d3 (lets be fair, my xbox is basically a d3 machine, dont hate me) looks and runs heaps better on the X even with just 1080p rez.

I had a PS4 in Canada but sold it when I moved back. This makes me want to swap systems back to Xbox. What is the timeline on the 'next gen' is it getting quicker between generations now? I'd spend the money for one of these if it is going to last a while.

A couple of years until the 9th gen I think. No formal announcements of hardware from anyone yet.

Depends on the game.. so yes. Gears of War 4 also has a performance mode for 60fps... same with Rise of the Tomb Raider
