The Xbox 360's controller is a crowd favourite among games peripherals, so with development of the upcoming Xbox One console, Microsoft hasn't strayed too much from that design. They have, however, tweaked, groomed and augmented several aspects of it for the new platform, boasting 40 different improvements.

In a new video, Xbox community guy Major Nelson takes an inside-and-out tour of the new controller with Xbox Accessories GM Zulfi Alam, who explains the myriad design tweaks in detail. Check it out below.

Looks like I can see a 'regular' battery door on the back... I wonder if MS will allow the use of regular batteries(y'know like eneloops etc etc), or if they'll force people to stick with a [their] MS proprietary battery...

In fact, I don't recall either of them mentioning rechargeable batteries at any point... does that suggest the controller won't be able to recharge batteries?

Triggers.
...'Haptich' feedback... what?
It sounds pretty wank factor for the next few mins from there... presumably the buttons will 'rumble' or 'pulse' when whatever action is taken with them. This could be cool, but here's hoping the uber-wide looking triggers still feel as good as the 360's triggers.

FINALLY.... USB cable use for signal... so, will there be a separate SKU for PC?
(And will MS do the right thing by the rest of the world and actually sell the RF Receiver for PC on its own (It still boggles the mind that this SKU didn't make its way to Aus. I Sourced my first one online, and then once that broke bought one of the controller bundles which included it... I didn't really need the second controller, but wanted a new USB Receiver))

I LOL'd at the 'xbox button' conversation... Poor 'Zulfi'(sp?) sounds like he's spent a few sleepless nights dealing with internal pressures to ensure that the xbox button aligns with the marketing mission statement of being 'more than a button'
It sounds to me like there'll be a revised model before long to replace their 'expensive' sounding transparent aluminium bits and pieces.

IR LED's sounds like it's purely leveled @ Kinect use, and whilst I think there could be one or two good uses of this kinda tech, as Zulfi goes on, the 360 'will be reading the IR LED and when you hand the controller over, the xbone will immediately transfer the user profile to that controller too'.
Whilst I'm not particularly concerned about this, it does pose the question as to why MS feels they 'need' to be reading peoples faces an learning who's using their console (and more to the point, that you have no alternative... enjoy having MS watch everything you do in your loungeroom....)

I'm curious to see what MS do with the xbone controller and aiming it at the PC market at all. The 360 controller is (it pains me to say) pretty damned good, and using it with the PC is something that I'm sure a lot of 360 users (y'know, wide audience here, not talking QGL/AG peeps) don't know that they can do (Much less how well integrated it is for use on the whole).

This video had me more excited than the xbone's press release vid...

Its haptic feedback, phones do it too, that little rumble/pulse when you press something on the touch screen to let you know you pressed it. In this case though its just a fancy way of saying the triggers will rumble, but more generally its just about giving feedback through touch.

And you can run the XBox with kinect unplugged now, so I guess if you're really paranoid about it scanning your face you could do that.

You could use any AA batteries in a 360 controller, how exactly did they force you to do anything? The only thing you couldn't do was recharge rechargeable AA batteries using the play and charge kit. That's a safety issue (because there's no way for it to distinguish a regular AA battery from a rechargeable, and recharging a regular AA battery is dangerous).

And will MS do the right thing by the rest of the world and actually sell the RF Receiver for PC on its own (It still boggles the mind that this SKU didn't make its way to Aus...
It made it here, I purchased one when they were first released. They disappeared from shelves pretty quickly though.

Zulfi Alam is by far the best spokesperson they've had for the Xbox One.

Nope. All one controller.
