The Xbox One appears to have had a better debut in China than in Japan according to new sources, although being the first foreign-made console legally for sale there since 2000 probably helped stoke anticipation for it.

Chinese games website 17173 (via Kotaku) reports that the Xbox One sold more than 100,000 units on its first day alone. The figure was attributed to the vice president of Shanghai Media Group, the conglomerate owning BesTV, Microsoft's partner in China.

Microsoft launched the Xbox One in China last week, with Japan getting their taste of the new console in early September. he console's first week of sales in Japan were very disappointing, just 23,562 units, trailing both PlayStation 4 and the Wii U's launch week sales by a wide margin. Sales in successive weeks were even lower.

Changes to the law inside the Shanghai Free Trade Zone made foreign-made video game consoles legal for sale for the first time in 14 years, and Microsoft quickly jumped at the opportunity. It delayed the console's launch by six days, but it has been noted the Xbox One still made it to shelves in time for China's "golden week holiday."
