Microsoft has revealed that their upcoming Xbox One next-gen console will be able to record commentary alongside the pre-recorded footage that players choose to clip together using the Xbox One DVR feature.
The news was revealed in a keynote speech by Microsoft's Phil Harrison at the recent Eurogamer Expo (via
Polygon), with Harrison demonstrating the systems Upload Studio feature that will allow players to record ""as much or as little" game footage. Those wanting to record commentary over the footage can do so by utilising the Kinect 2.0 camera, "which will later be played in a picture-in-picture view over top of the recorded game" reports
Polygon.
Quality of the Xbox One DVR feature is limited at 720p resolution at 30 frames per second, with the clips being stored within the cloud for later use. Clips are stored "in the cloud and can be found in the Xbox One Guide, in your own game DVR collection and when you are looking at gamercards on the system." Privacy is also a key element in the DVR feature, with the ability to set clips to either private or public status.
Microsoft's Xbox One will be launching November 22nd, with the DVR feature available on launch. Those hoping for the ability to upload the clips to social media sites like YouTube or Facebook will sadly have to wait until sometime in 2014.
