It's been a long time coming but you can now manage game installs from within the
Xbox App on PC, which lets you move games to other drives or folders in addition to opening up access to game files for modding and other things. The update is available now on Windows 10.
We’re happy to share that the newest Installation and Game Management features are available for the Xbox app on PC! This is what it means for you:
- You now have the option to choose what folder your games get installed to
- Access to files for select games you’ve installed, as well as options to repair and move your games
- Ability to mod more games
You won’t have to re-install your existing games, just right click on them in the left-hand side of your app and click on “manage,” then “enable.” You can also move and repair your games from here.
That said it is a little clunky in that you get to see how the Xbox App deals with files -- by installing games to strange directory names that have a very back-end Windows feel. The next step would be to fully open access to these directories from within Windows and the ability to install on an external drive and then take that to a different PC.
Still, this is a very cool update and the next step in improving the Xbox experience on PC.
