As per a new report over at Bloomberg a World of Warcraft spin-off for mobile has apparently been cancelled after three years in development. A joint project by Blizzard and Chinese studio NetEase (Diablo Immortal) its code-name was Neptune and it was reportedly a mobile MMO that had over 100 developers working on the title.

Set during a different time period than the current World of Warcraft for PC, it was a mobile version of the popular game designed for mobile. As for the reasoning for the cancellation, it's said that the two companies "disagreed over terms" which then led to work stopping. Currently, Blizzard is still developing the tower strategy auto-battler Warcraft Arclight Rumble for mobile devices, but it definitely sounds like this would have been a much larger game. Mobile WoW.

This report cites sources close to the mobile MMO project, with both NetEase and Activision Blizzard declining to comment. On the PC side, World of Warcraft will see its next major expansion Dragonflight launch later this year.
