Wargaming has plans to add in virtual reality support for their money-making title World of Tanks, though only if the Oculus Rift makes it big.
According to Wargaming.net CEO Victor Kislyi, that could happen, but only if the numbers add up. In an interview with
CVG, the World of Tanks boss said that, while he's interested in the tech, the Oculus Rift would need to sell around 5-10 million units to justify native support. It's worth watching the interview not just for the Oculus discussion, but also to hear Kislyi use the phrase "magicians of experience".
Talking about the percentage of free-to-play players who spend money, Kislyi stated that "a million is not enough."
"We have to have a certain number of players who pay, from time to time, a little money. So ten million, five million is a good user base. If Xbox One or Oculus Rift reach those numbers, we're there."
Kislyi clarified by saying that if virtual reality becomes a large enough pool to jump into, the company would create an entirely separate Oculus version developed exclusively for VR. This also applies to the Xbox One version, which is in direct contrast to the Xbox 360 playerbase that is already far larger and more profitable.

With their 5 million sales criteria, I'm assuming that Wargaming.net is now the epitome of all that is wrong with the video game industry in 2014, RIGHT?

Curse them and their Russian tank bias and gold ammo shenanigans...

Even if you had the most kick arse system I really can't see anyone, who is sane, would bother to download all the HD models for WoT. Make your game go from 16G installed to 70G. Especially when you consider at 100m the HD Tiger would look exactly the same as the normal one.
AG best just change anything from Kislyi to "Talked a lot of s*** that will never happen"

FPS is just B and C grade s*** - what's it going to take?

same when it comes to hosting large game files - some game devs just say "no"

I don't blame them, f*** telstra. But I guess we're stuck with them for a while longer.

IIRC WoW was going to have Aus realms a very long time ago. It took a long time for Blizzard to stop laughing at the cost of Aus hosting with Telstra.
