Speaking with CVG UK, Crytek CEO Cevat Yerli gave Nintendo his nod of approval, singing praises for their forthcoming Wii U and revealed that their touted CryEngine 3 could not only run on it, but had recently been licensed for an upcoming Wii U title yet to be announced.

"[CryEngine 3] actually runs beautifully," Yerli told the site. "In fact, there actually is a game in development from a respected developer that we will be announcing. I've seen the game running and it looks really great.

"From my perspective I do not understand the public's concerns that the Wii U is weaker than PS3 and 360," he continued. "From my perspective the Wii U is minimum as powerful as Xbox 360."

Any suggestions as to what this new game, and who this "respected" developer, is? Drop us a line in the Comments below.

Hmm, not sure if I was to buy another console if I would get something of current generation power when next-gen powered consoles are coming out.

I would fear it would end up similar to the Wii. Covered in Dust and barely used.

He states that it is at minimum as powerful as a Xbox 360, so who knows what its maximum is. Hopefully more info will come out soon, including actual specifications instead of just "it has a CPU".

wow, it manages to be as powerful as 8 year old tech!

Here's hoping it is nice and cheap.

But I won't be buying one until there are some decent exclusive games.

Hasn't certain hardware (like CPU) reached a plateau in recent years but certain changes (dual cores?) have made things faster? In other words could CPU speeds be the same in WIIU as 360 but certain newer technology means they are more powerful?

I thought at first glance this thread said "Wii U as powerful as Crytek Boss", which would have been awesome.

Nintendo has its own market which means it doesn't need the power like the other systems. if its got the playability then it will win!

I dream of a return to the glory days: ocarina of time, banjo kazooie, lylat wars, goldeneye, perfect dark. It's not just nostalgia, those games were definitely superior in many ways

why don't you go and play them then?

i'm not seeing what that has to do with a new nintendo system?

why do nintendo fans not like new games or something?

This needs to be real. Now. People would s*** themselves and buy a Super Wii I guarantee it.

Typo in subject as dais very subtly pointed out -- "powerful" in place of "powerul".

The Wii U has been confirmed as native 1080p while the 360 and PS3 are only 720p native. Also with their propriety HD discs Wii U games will get the benefits of high resolution textures and lossless sound.

Also consoles are optimised for gaming, remember how powerful PCs needed to be just to be able to emulate SNES games? Here are the Wii U specs according to IGN.com, they may not be very exciting to a PC user but keep in mind my previous sentence:

Badly articulated by Stalfax but I think he means he wants a return to the golden days of a Nintendo console having a (relatively) large variety of awesome original games that were innovative and fun. Or maybe he just wants better graphics.

I want Rare to go back to its old school ways. Checkout this list and see how many of those games were from rare:

Greazy: The SNES's clock speed was only 3.4 MHz, that's the point I was making.

Your point is silly, unoptimised emulation like the original SNES emulators has a huge amount of overhead compared to software running natively. I get what you mean, but that particular example really isn't relevant to the point you're trying to make.

Three point six actually and you are wrong good sir.

(I see your point, it's all relative which is why when the specs come out they need to be compared to current gen consoles)

Thanks Mantorok, that's a good read and goes some way to disproving my point above.

Metroid Fusion is Metroid 4 (it even says so in the opening), and the seventh Zelda is Oracle of Ages/Oracle of Seasons.

I want a direct sequel to Link to the Past, in the same top down style. Or a Majora's Mask like in the video I posted.
