This weekend will mark the busiest weekend for December in the gaming industry, thanks to two big, complementary events: The Game Awards and PlayStation Experience. Read on to see how to handle these two explosive events and what we can expect from them.

Kicking off the weekend will be The Game Awards, a supplant to the annual Video Game Awards (and VGX) that Spike TV put on for the past decade. Geoff Keighley is running this one again, and will feature a range of awards, world premieres and at least one musical performance from Imagine Dragons. The show will begin Saturday 6th at 12:00PM AEST, and will go for at least two hours.

So far only a few hints as to what we can expect game-wise have been dropped by Keighley, though you'll be able to catch the show through Twitch, PlayStation Network, Xbox Live, YouTube and Steam. Currently we have a tally of between 12 to 18 world premieres, including a first look at Metal Gear Online. There will also be a premiere of the new King's Quest, and we can also expect PlayStation 4 titles Bloodborne, The Order: 1886 and PC/PS4 title No Man's Sky.

What we do know specifics on is that two companies so far have ruled out any new announcements; Fallout and DOOM developer Bethesda Softworks and Xbox's Microsoft.



Following the tail of The Game Awards will be Sony's PlayStation Experience event in Sands Expo and Convention Center. That will kick off Sunday at 4:00AM AEST for us Australian viewers, and will host a 90-minute keynote where we can expect new game announcements, trailers, and probably a surprise or two for fans. Those attending will also be able to purchase Sony's PlayStation 4 20th Anniversary console bundle, but news of other venues will also be revealed.

The PlayStation Experience keynote will be livestreamed on Sony's Twitch channel, as will select panels, talks and gameplay demos. Sony has posted a full schedule of its panels and which ones plans to livestream at the PlayStation Blog.

A handful of developers have teased game announcements for the show. The Bartlet Jones Supernatural Detective Agency, David Jaffe's new studio, put out a PlayStation Experience teaser last month. And Sony San Diego is promising something unexpected that's not an MLB title. Killzone developer Guerrilla Games is listed as in attendance, despite not having an announced title or panel at the show.
