With the game back on track for a local release, today we've got an extended look at the dystopian cinematic world of Compulsion Games' We Happy Few. Where the twisted 1960s England by the way of 1984 serves as the setting for what looks to be a dark and very BioShock-like adventure into a world under government control.

With the most obvious hallmark of that being the use of drugs to give citizens the impression of living in a utopia. The following extended look is without a doubt our best look at the game yet.

We Happy Few is the tale of a plucky bunch of moderately terrible people trying to escape from a lifetime of cheerful denial in the city of Wellington Wells. In this alternative 1960s England, conformity is key. You’ll have to fight or blend in with the drug-addled inhabitants, most of whom don’t take kindly to people who won’t abide by their not-so-normal rules.

In it we get to see glimpses of skill trees, stealth that involves sneaking into a house and smothering someone while they're sleeping, combat, and even crafting. All wrapped in a story that looks to focus on breaking from conformity to re-discover a mysterious past.

We Happy Few launches August 10 for PC, Xbox One, and PS4. Published by Gearbox Publishing developer Compulsion Games was recently acquired by Microsoft.
