In case you missed this in the Gamescom slaw, Square Enix released a solid 20-minutes of "A-Day" Marvel: The Avengers gameplay footage from the show overnight, kicking off with some turmoil in San Francisco and the mighty Avengers doing what they do best -- avengening.

Developed by Tomb Raider specialists, Crystal Dynamics (with some help from Eidos Montreal), the game is a standalone entry that sits amidst the comics and MCU, and features "Earth's mightiest heroes". It should be said that so far, we're not really getting a Batman: Arkham series level of awesomeness from this project, but even Arkham Asylum didn't sell people right away.

And look how that franchise worked out.
