Open-world sandbox hacking game Watch Dogs has surpassed the 4 million marker for copies sold to customers in its first week, Ubisoft announced today.

According to the press release, this humble feat makes it the best-selling new franchise launch in history, as well as making it the best first week sales of any Ubisoft game ever. The publisher previously mentioned a goal of six million sales, so its looking on track to reach that number even without launching the Wii U version yet.

Adding onto this rather large number, Ubisoft also revealed that the ctOS mobile companion app has been downloaded more than 1 million times. The app allows players to jump into Watch Dogs' multiplayer and face off against other players as they try to hinder progress and win big on the leaderboards.

Watch Dogs released on May 27th for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One and Xbox 360. A Wii U version is scheduled for release later this year. Miss our Watch Dogs review? Check it out for full impressions on Ubisoft's next big franchise. As always, drop us a line in the comment section on how you are enjoying Watch Dogs.

See Ubisoft, see what happens when you don't have massively over the top DRM

but imagine how many more sales they would have made if that many more people didn't pirate it because of their over the top DRM.

Have been playing it on the PS4, for a new open world IP it's pretty good, The story is meh, but the other activities i've found to be quite addivctive.

Multplayer and the CTOS mobile app are by far what make this title stand out.

Watch Dogs feels to me like the first AC game. It had a lot of cool concepts and ideas, but it wasn't fully fleshed out till the sequel. So I expect it's follow up to be better than the original.

Ubisoft make some really awesome games which a couple of franchises I've come to love.

Good for them, I think they were targetting six million copies sold, so there's still a way to go.

That mobile app is awesome when it works, but I've been having some connection problems and dropouts during races that kind of kills the fun.

Great game but Ubisoft still need to work on their multiplayer.
