Previously delayed from its initial release back in November of 2013, where it was preparing to release alongside the launch of the new generation consoles, Ubisoft has today announced that the open sandbox hacking title Watch Dogs will now be launching worldwide on May 27th.
“We are pleased to be able to reveal to gamers all over the world the new release date for Watch Dogs™,” said Geoffroy Sardin, EMEA Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing, Ubisoft. “We are extremely confident that the additional time we afforded the dev team to refine and polish the game will be more than worth the wait.”
Alongside the release date announcement the team has also revealed a new story trailer focusing on main protagonist Aiden Pearce, a new type of vigilante hero who utilises his smartphone to take on Chicago's centreal operating system for his own use. Featuring a number of gameplay shots and a whole lot of killing, it looks like Watch Dogs will let you play out any way you feel, be it guns blazing or behind-the-scenes hacking.
AS was previously revealed ahead of its original launch, those purchasing Watch Dogs on either the PlayStation 3 or PlayStation 4 will have exclusive access to 60 minutes of additional gameplay via the PlayStation Network.
“We’re really excited for the launch of Watch Dogs on both PS3 and PS4 and are confident that it will prove to be one of the standout games of 2014,” said Michael Pattison, Vice President, Third Party Relations, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe. “It’s a unique and visionary game and we believe that the exclusive content available via PSN will not only excite gamers, but showcase how PlayStation is a preferred destination for Watch Dogs.”
You can find the trailer in action below, which offers a great look at just what the team have been doing since its initial delay. While it may not look as impressive as the initial E3 2012 reveal trailer, its still sporting a very in-depth open world to roam in which is all we can ask for.
Watch Dogs will be releasing May 27th on PC, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One. A Wii U version will be releasing at a later date.
