While those across the great oceans are still waiting for the clock to tick down until May 27th, Ubisoft's open-world hacking title Watch Dogs has now become available for Australian and New Zealand gamers.
In Watch Dogs, players enter the dangerous world of Aiden Pearce, a new class of antihero whose ability to hack into any connected system could be his most powerful weapon. Whether it’s triggering a 30-car pileup by manipulating traffic-lights to trap an enemy during a downtown shootout or tapping into the city’s omnipresent security cameras to access anyone’s personal information, Pearce is capable of coercing and controlling almost every element of the world around him.
Alongside the launch of the main game, Ubisoft has also detailed that the mobile companion app, ctOS, will also be launching later today. The Android and iOS game will be free, have no microtransactions and will not require players to own Watch Dogs, according to Ubisoft.
The ctOS Mobile app will include two modes: Race, where the distance between checkpoints are short and console or PC players have GPC enabled; and Free Ride, which widens checkpoint distances and turns GPS off. As Watch Dogs players race from checkpoint to checkpoint gaining time at every interval, ctOS Mobile players hack the city through a top-down map. From there, they can trigger barricades, set off explosions and call in assists from helicopter-stationed snipers and the police. If ctOS Mobile players can stop Watch Dogs players, they win.
Further information on the app can be found at Ubisoft's blog post, which also includes links to the iOS and Android versions (which aren't yet live). Watch Dogs is available now on PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. A Wii U version will be available later this year.
