This one is interesting in that Activision Blizzard studio Vicarious Visions is changing directions to focus squarely on Blizzard games and properties. The team behind the excellent Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1+2 and Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy remakes is now poised to be a support studio for Blizzard moving forward.

With a representative telling GamesIndustry.biz, "After collaborating with Vicarious Visions for some time and developing a great relationship, Blizzard realized there was an opportunity for [VV] to provide long-term support." As a part of the move Vicarious Visions studio head Jen Oneal becomes a Blizzard executive, reporting directly to company president J. Allen Brack.

Vicarious Visions, which was acquired by Activision back in 2005 will reportedly keep its current studio location of Albany, New York. With the studio's pedigree and recent track record in creating high-quality and faithful remakes we wouldn't be surprised to learn this time next month (at BlizzCon) that Vicarious Visions is currently remaking Diablo 2 under the rumoured title Diablo II: Resurrection.

Fans have been wanting to see a Diablo II remake/remaster for some time now, with rumours pointing towards such a project in existence. Though with the recent Warcraft III remaster falling short, getting assistance from an additional studio makes sense. Especially now that reports (like this one over at Bloomberg) are indicating that Blizzard has dismantled the Classic Games team responsible for the StarCraft remaster and Warcraft III: Reforged. The Diablo 2 remake is currently falls under the Diablo umbrella, where industry veteran Rod Fergusson (ex-Epic Games and Coalition) is leading the teams on Diablo IV, Diablo III, and this rumoured remake.

Reshuffling aside, VV seems like the perfect fit for a faithful remake or remaster of the seminal action-RPG -- the studio has done stellar work on that front recently, with the Tony Hawk remake cracking our Top 10 Best Games of 2020. That or Rock N' Roll Racing.
