In a new interview over at
PC Gamer with
Valve president Gabe Newell, the
Steam Deck just dropped in the U.S., he was asked about a potential 'Steam Pass'. That is a subscription service ala
Xbox Game Pass but for
Steam. As per his response, Valve has no current plans for something like that but is open to the idea of working with Microsoft to bring the actual Game Pass to Steam.
"I don't think it's something that we think we need to do ourselves, building a subscription service at this time," Newell told PC Gamer. "But for their customers it's clearly a popular option, and we'd be more than happy to work with them to get that on Steam."
There is a precedent for this too, with EA's EA Play subscription being a part of Steam. Currently Xbox Game Pass on PC is tied to the Xbox App, but having a version exist on Steam (where Xbox first-party titles already exist) sounds like a great idea.
"We've talked to people there [Microsoft] quite a bit about that topic," Newell added. "If your customers want it, then you should figure out how to make it happen. That's where we're at."
