In an investor meeting in Los Angeles, Activision CEO, Eric Hirshberg, revealed that the average spend for Call of Duty: Black Ops with post-release map packs, was USD$76. 18 million of these map packs have been sold since the game's release.

You don't have to be good at maths to see how astounding that is.

According to Hirshberg, there was an 18 percent increase on DLC sales over previous titles. Modern Warfare 2, for example, sold 11 million map packs while World at War sold just 9 million.

"There are over 30 million unique players of Black Ops who collectively have amassed, incredibly, more than 2.3 billion hours of play," he said.

"To put that number in perspective, that's more than a quarter of a million years of play and that means our millions of fans spend more time per day on Black Ops multiplayer than they do on Facebook."

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 rocks the boat this November, but will it maintain this significant trend with Battlefield 3 vying for top-spot? Only time will tell.

Wait, how do you spend $76 on map packs...they are only $14 or so each...

An average of $76. Not everyone spent $76. Some obviously bought all of the map packs, some bought far less.

but there's only 4 map packs on black ops so only the max you could spend is $56 odd

And I'd wager that Australian Black Ops owners averaged a higher spend than that without even factoring in the DLC at all, with that awesome launch RRP.

$76 is just about two games... I'm still on $0 for COD map packs.

I bought the MW2 packs but I don't see any point in getting the blops ones as I hardly ever see dlc servers up.

What a retarded quote.

Mmm, the DLC for blops didn't work well because servers could choose to not have it enabled. But in MW2 it was mandatory as there was no server system to choose.

It's important to remember these things are at investor and shareholder meetings. Sound bites like this are encouraging to investors who probably generally know nothing about video games.

Like they make more money out of DLC then the actual game.
Kinda frustraiting how the community has changed from the old days of making maps and s*** for fun, to now being a major money spinner.
