It seems Ubisoft is pushing even harder with their online service Uplay, with VideoGamer reporting that only those who are members to the service will be able to gain access to the upcoming beta for Far Cry 3.

While Ubisoft hasn't stated whether anyone else will be getting the same privileges, Uplay's brand development manager Alexandra Andrieux has stated that "there are programs for our Uplay members to have privilege access to the [Far Cry 3] beta when the game launches." It is hard to say whether anyone that has activated a product on Uplay will be able to get into the beta, it is safe to say that some form of Uplay will be needed.

"In the American territories... they have the ability to participate in the beta because we know that they are a Uplay member and we put them first."

According to VideoGamer, only North American customers who had pre-ordered Ghost Recon: Future Soldier at GameStop were guaranteed the beta access, however even that is up in the air now. The beta was originally meant to start on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in the American summer, however that hasn't occurred yet.

Ubisoft's Uplay service has been under fire since beginning, with the initial complaints stemming from the "always-online DRM" that Ubisoft had weaved into most of their recent titles. Recently though Ubisoft has announced that all DRM has been revoked, and a simple one-time activation will be needed for past and future titles, including the upcoming Assassin's Creed 3.
