It's been a long time between drinks for major boxing games. The last being EA's Fight Night series which hung up its gloves way back in 2011. Others have come and gone, but nothing you would consider 'big time'. Now, however, comes Undisputed -- the first heavy weight to come into the lacking field in more than a decade. And it'll be doing a weigh in via Steam Early Access later this month.

Undisputed packs a punch with stunning visuals, a revolutionary footwork system and deep strategy. With over 60 different punches, voiceovers from legendary referees and commentators and support from the world of boxing, Undisputed intends to live up to its name and become the king of boxing games.

For the Early Access phase, the game will feature a roster of over 50 playable characters including Tyson Fury, Canelo Alvarez, Deontay Wilder, Katie Taylor and a fully-fledged women’s division across 6 unique fight locations, including a large arena, and Coldwell’s gym. Players can enjoy Undisputed offline against friends or AI opponents or they can go online to compete for a place on the leaderboards.

To ensure true authenticity of Undisputed, Sheffield-based developer Steel City Interactive is partnering with all the heavy-weight brands in boxing, including the World Boxing Council, the British Boxing Board of Control, Empire and many more.

Key Features:
  • Revolutionary footwork mechanics, including a Loose Movement modifier to help players move around the ring with ease.
  • More than 60 individual punches. Players can punch from multiple angles and directions. Feint to set up a trap and counter.
  • All the tools needed to be a defensive wizard. Players can slip punches, weave, dodge and block.
  • Physics-driven interactions – punches can sometimes go around or even through the guard.
  • Up close and personal inside fighting like never before.
To see some big names already signed up to be featured is great, but as Aussies we're currently under represented. There's plenty in the archive to pull from too, but for ours it should be our best up and coming fighter, the son of a gun, The Soul Taker, Tim Tszyu. Not only is he rapidly making a name for himself internationally, he's doing everything right for the sport in this country and we'd be remiss not to remind the local team here working as its promoter, to consider putting his name forward to the devs at Steel City Interactive.

Maybe it's the timing being so long since the last big outing, or maybe because I've fallen in love with Hajme no Ippo - The Fighting on Netflix recently, but a boxing game right about now just feels... right. Undisputed hits Steam Early Access on January 31. Stay tuned for more as we have it.
