Announced back in 2017,
Skull and Bones was positioned as a sea-faring pirate adventure from the team behind all of that good stuff in
Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag. With its maiden voyage originally set for 2018 the game has since been beset by a number of delays, most recently last year
where it was revealed that the game had been rebooted.
So then, when can we expect to play Skull and Bones? Well, according to the latest
Ubisoft financial report the release window is now set for 2022-2023. Starting April 2022.
As per that reboot announcement, Creative Director Elisabeth Pellen noted that "Production on Skull & Bones has been in full swing with a new vision" as of September 2020. Adding, "Our teams at Ubisoft Singapore are fully committed to launching the game, as well as supporting it for many years to come."
That bit about many years to come is in reference to rumours that the new version of Skull and Bones is set to be a multiplayer free-to-play title with live service mechanics. Seasons, cosmetics, things of that nature. With Rare's excellent
Sea of Thieves basically cornering the "sailing as a pirate" market it'll be interesting to see how this pans out. And you know, if it actually makes its way to consoles and PC.
