Ubisoft has rather high hopes for its upcoming open-world hacking title Watch Dogs, with CEO Yves Guillemot stating today that "Watch Dogs' preorders are at record levels and it is perfectly positioned to become the industry’s most successful new IP in history."

Specifics on just how many pre-orders the company has seen were sadly not revealed, however the publisher previously stated that they expect 6 million copies to be sold. Of course Ubisoft hasn't been the first to make such bold claims, with other companies like Activision, who have previously stated that Bungie's Destiny will be a "multi-billion dollar franchise."

In another statement today, Ubisoft said Watch Dogs is the most preordered new IP in Ubisoft's history and the most preordered new IP in the entire video game business this year. Specific pre-order figures were not shared. Overall, Watch Dogs is the second-highest pre-ordered Ubisoft game of all time, though it's not clear which game is number one.

Watch Dogs will be launching on May 27th for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One and Xbox 360. A Wii U version is expected, though at a later date this year.

So much hype for this game is the main reason why I haven't pre-ordered it or even going to rush out and get it on launch, I will wait for the masses to burn through it and see if they hype train actually delivered.

I never got the whole preordering thing, the only games I can remember preordering for was the guitar hero ones with peripherals as it would take forever to come back in stock if they sold out

I pre-ordered. It's part a naive attempt to support the developers and part whimsical catharsis of my excitement for the game.

Yeah I only pre-ordered because I nabbed it for $40ish on Origin Mexico. I'm also rather hyped because we finally have a new open-world title on PC, and I need to thrash my 770.

I still don't understand what this game is. So no pre-order for me.
