During the company’s Digital Days event late last night, Ubisoft announced the development of Valiant Hearts: The Great War, a title that follows five characters whose destinies cross during the Great War.
In development by a small team at Ubisoft Montpellier, Valiant Hearts will utilise Ubisoft's UbiArt Framework engine to help bring a more comic-like approach to the game. Consisting of a wide variety of colours, players will find themselves moving through various environments reminiscent of the previous wars of our history.
The story of Valiant Hearts The Great War focuses on the journey of five people as they brave the battles and difficulties of the Great War following their faithful canine companion. The game is set in the Western Front, a crossroads between World War One’s Allied and Central Powers and home to some of the War’s most intense military confrontations. All of the main characters are inextricably drawn together, and friendship, love, sacrifice and tragedy befall each as they help each other to retain their humanity against the horrors of war.
Paul Tumelaire, Creative Director at Ubisoft revealed that the inspiration behind Valiant Hearts was due to the upcoming World War 1 centennial, where the team "felt it was the right time to explore such a unique yet almost forgotten time period in our history."
“The UbiArt Framework engine helps us to use a strong art direction and great character-driven story-telling to both entertain and engage players emotionally.”.
Valiant Hearts: The Great War will be available n the first quarter of 2014 on current- and next-generation platforms as well as PC digital.
