It's been available in North America since last October, but it looks like Rocksmith has proven itself popular enough for Ubisoft to bring it to our little corner of the global market -- although, we'll still have to wait another six months.

As the plastic instruments from the Guitar Hero and Rock Band era slowly become landfill around the world, Rocksmith allows players to jack a real electric guitar into their console via a USB adapter (that also actually functions as a reasonably good music recording interface on a PC).
Rocksmith’s magic is thanks to the exclusive Real Tone Cable™ provided with the game. It’s as simple as plugging the quarter-inch jack into any electric guitar and the USB plug to any USB port of the Xbox 360 console, PlayStation®3 or PC/MAC. The cable and software transform the analog signal of the guitar into a digital one that can be heard through TV speakers or any other stereo amplifier.

Anyone from beginners to seasoned guitar players will find in Rocksmith what they’ve always been looking for: an enjoyable learning experience that automatically adjusts to their skill level so they can progress at their own speed. Moreover, the innovative game design makes reading music visually fun and intuitive: no more need for wannabe guitarists to go through music theory or tabs before having a blast playing their favourite tunes for real.
Rocksmith is due in Australia on September 13th 2012 for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, with a PC/Mac version to follow "later". Watch the Australian release date trailer below (or here for the HD page).

Sounds expensive if you have to buy a real guitar to play it.

Buy a Peavey Vypyr 15 + guitar and just plug your ipod/mp3 player into the amp and play along. Vypyr is versatile enough to cover all types of music.

Kudos for ubisoft actually getting people to play real instruments though...if people actually buy it.

The PS3 version isn't region locked (xbox 360 is, f*****g lame), buying the DLC is a bit more dificult as you need to buy from the US store but that isn't too hard to get around. I imagine that it will cost more here when it's released than the $89 I got it for on ebay (I couldn't wait Ubisoft you f****!).

I'm surprised at how well it works and I haven't had the problem some have had with digital tv syncing, that or I'm just not noticing it. I seem to improve each time I play a song and the dynamic dificulty seems to work nicely. I want to send the audio out to my amp and effect pedals just for s**** and giggles.

And Rev a really cheap guitar would cost a little more than the platic toys that you need to play guitar hero/rockband and if you already have a decent guitar you are set.
