You might not be old enough to remember this, young 'un. Seems forever ago now. In the 'before times', you know?

Ahem.

So ahh, Ubisoft has shifted the long-gestating development and release of its remake of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time away from the studios who were handling it, to the studio that actually did the original, Ubisoft Montreal.

And here's the thing with that move -- the Montreal studio is actually really big, and a kind of 'dev HQ', if you will. So the game coming back to its original studio is the romantic way of saying what's really happening, which is that Ubisoft Pune and Ubisoft Mumbai have struggled to get this remake out the door and now it needs to come back to the fix it studio.

As the link above suggested, the game itself was due to release this year, but as Ubi Tweeted today, that seems a bit unlikely now:

"Regroup on the scope" and "when it's ready" are the two key takeaways from the Tweet above, and are fairly telling in terms of curbing expectations for any sort of 2022 release.

We'll have more as it becomes available, but for now, flip the hours glass and reset the sands...
