Which is a marked improvement on the debacle that was Unity, and with fans already embracing the option to choose either Kassandra or Alexios for their tale through the world of Assassin's Creed Odyssey (I'm currently playing as Kassandra), sticking with this concept moving forward is kind of a no-brainer.
So much so, that Odyssey game director Scott Philips has stated just as much in an interview with
Gamesindustry.biz saying "I think it would be a mistake to limit our players, limit our fanbase from as many people as possible".
“I don’t know why we would go back," he continued. "We should continue pushing in this direction, bring in more players, more fans to enjoy this experience and make it their own experience.”
The unique position of Odyssey is that you're not simply creating an avatar -- similarly to the Mass Effect series, your chosen gender is a completely fleshed-out and fully-voiced character where often gender is dropped in conversation or reaction to events, throughout this mammoth experience. And seeing that we've played a stack of the game throughout the year, we can confidently tell you the way in which gender choice has been handled in Assassin's Creed Odyssey is exceptional.
