In a surprising and very awesome bit of news today, Ubisoft has announced it's plans to bring cross-platform support to its VR titles -- starting with Eagle Flight. Which means players on PSVR, Oculus Rift, and HTC Vive can team up or play against each other as of an update coming to the game tomorrow. But, it doesn't stop there as Ubisoft are looking to bringing this support to all of its upcoming multiplayer VR offerings.
Including the rather impressive sounding Star Trek: Bridge Crew and Werewolves Within.
"Making our VR titles cross-platform has been a goal of ours from the start and we’re happy to announce that Eagle Flight, Werewolves Within, and Star Trek: Bridge Crew will be playable cross-platform on PSVR, Oculus Rift, and HTC Vive," said David Votypka, senior creative director at Red Storm. "Our games feature a strong multiplayer experiences, so letting friends play together regardless of which headset they own will enhance the social nature of our games and let them be played the way we envisioned."
With the current fragmentation of VR titles and software related to the various headsets and hardware configurations available, it's great to see that there's an effort to level the playing field. Of course different control methods across the different VR platforms might make this sort of thing difficult for some titles.
Eagle Flight is currently available on PSVR and Oculus Rift, with a HTC Vive release happening December 20. Werewolves Within has a release date of December 6 and Star Trek: Bridge Crew is slated for release March 2017.
