Evolve developer Turtle Rock Studios plans to give away all downloadable content for free and it says that its premium DLC content will not "directly exclude" players who have purchased the base game.
In an interview with
IGN, Turtle Rock's Phil Robb, the creative director for Evolve, said that his company has done this so it does not fracture the community into two groups.
"We can’t break the community up, so all of our maps will be free," Robb said. "We never want anyone to get booted off of a server because they haven’t bought something."
Robb also said that non-premium customers will be able to interact with premium customers:
"We’ll have [add-on] characters and monsters, and even if you don’t buy them, if your buddy wants to buy the DLC, that’s cool, and your game will be enhanced through his purchase. You won’t be able to play as those characters, but you will certainly be able to play with those characters."
Evolve will release internationally on February 10th for PlayStation 4, Windows PC and Xbox One.
