Ubisoft's efforts to buck to the trend of bad videogame to movie adaptations via their own production company continues to make strides, with actor Tom Hardy (best known for his recent performance as Bane in The Dark Knight Rises) reportedly signed on to play the iconic Sam Fisher in the upcoming film titled Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell (via Variety):
"Tom Hardy is currently one of the biggest talents in the film industry, and he has a phenomenal ability to take on complex and varied roles with his broad range of acting skills," said Jean-Julien Baronnet, CEO of Ubisoft Motion Pictures. "His involvement in the 'Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell' movie is exciting news for movie and video game fans alike. Meanwhile, Eric Singer is one of the most talented writers of the moment, and ... we're confident he'll bring a fresh approach and create a thrilling story ... while still respecting all the codes and traditions of the franchise that are so important to fans."
Sam Fisher next videogame outing is the upcoming Splinter Cell: Blacklist, due next autumn on PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation.

Eh, Tom Hardy is good and all.. but I don't know if he's right for Sam Fisher.

I think hes got the look for Sam Fisher, not sure hes got the attitude or the voice though. But then Sam Fisher is always going to sound like Michael Ironside to me anyway, so unless they get Michael Ironside to overdub it, it'll never sound right :(

Quite an unexpected choice, but I think an excellent one. He has the star power, range and talent (Inception, Dark Knight Rises).

Yeah, Tom Hardy is signed on for the troubled and much delayed Mad Max sequel.
