"We are very eager to revisit the universe which has shaped our history to such an extent," said CD Projekt RED's Adam Kiciński. "We have recently concluded the research phase for the first game in the new Witcher saga, which means that from now on further development expenditures will be capitalised on our balance sheet."

This means the project has moved into the pre-production phase of its life (as noted by IGN), and will be the first game developed as part of CDPR's new relationship with Epic Games to use Unreal Engine 5.

While no new details beyond the shift in development were revealed as part of a post at cdprojekt.com, we can only hope that in utilising the new engine there will be less time devoted to developing internal systems than would have otherwise been had CDPR been updating REDEngine for the project.

And while the hope is for a faster release, we're best to cool our jets and assume this is more than a few years out, with just the one bit of teaser art attached to it, which the company has confirmed is a lynx Witcher medallion, though this doesn't tell us a whole lot.
