The PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S "next-gen" update for
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt has been a long time coming. It was originally planned for 2021, until the Cyberpunk 2077 launch and subsequent patches and updates pushed the release into 2022. Then in April its release was
put on hold due the war in Ukraine - development was being handled in part by Saber Interactive’s Russia studio.
With CD Projekt Red now in charge of the overhaul (and we still don't know exactly what the upgrade will include exactly), today comes word that its release is on track for Q4 2022.
As per the Tweet above, CDPR notes "We're delighted to share that the Next Gen version of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is planned to release in Q4 2022." The update, which will take advantage of next-gen console hardware, will also come to PC as a free update to the game. The studio has mentioned that it'll support 4K in addition to 60fps performance modes, plus ray-tracing. More details and a first-look is expected in the coming months.
