CD Projekt RED are referring to the forthcoming debut of The Witcher 2 on Xbox 360 as an adaptation of The Witcher 2 on PC and not a port.

"The CGI Intro for The Witcher 2 will have [a] different flavor than the one known from the first Witcher game," said Tomasz Baginski, a noted BAFTA nominated animator who is working on the prject. "In Witcher 1 we have quite an intimate story which practically consists of only two main characters. The Intro told a part of the first short story about Geralt of Rivia ever written by the author Andrzej Sapkowski and was not directly connected with the game itself. For us it was also kind of a tribute to the author.

"Today, we have a different situation," he continued. "Some shots seen in the Xbox trailers show that this time we went into different direction. We have very spectacular and epic scenes strictly connected with the events from the game and its subtitle. I won’t reveal more in order to not spoil watching it when the game comes out.”

You can take from that what you will, but it sounds like they're updating the story a bit for the Xbox 360 version of the game. The team also showed off the game running on Xbox 360, which they say themselves is a "clear sign that the international release of the game is getting closer".

I do like the idea the game is an "adaptation" of the PC version, I just hope that's not a buzz word created to deal with the fact they just can't make The Witcher 2 on a console. I guess we'll know exactly what it means soon enough.

Have a feeling the "adaptation" is not for refining story but is for hardware limitations on the 360. I was under the impression, false though it may be, that they concurrently developed the game on PC/360 (hence the rather awful "console interface/mini games interface" for PC). The game engine seemed rather unoptimised for PC so I'd hate to see a direct port anyway I think :P

If the adaptation was to clean up some story, cut some waffle or so forth while retaining the game play and feel it would make for a better overall Witcher experience. Done well enough it could be worth owning the game on PC and the 360, or if having to make a choice. having it on 360 over PC.

CD Projekt RED really supported the original Witcher and made changes that vastly improved that game so their track record is good in terms of knowing what constitutes good changes post launch.
