From development studio Deck13, The Surge made waves as a sci-fi take on the action-RPG style of Dark Souls. Challenging tactical combat in a brutal world. The sequel which is out in September looks to build on that foundation with a much more vibrant and alive world to explore, improved AI, and more fluid combat.
The following gameplay video features the development team walking through a section of gameplay set in the new location of Jericho City.
Not only do the environments look better but the whole removing limbs and parts from enemies and then using those as new weapons and tools feels more natural. A bigger focus on exploration is also a step up from the linear maze-like level design seen in the original. And there are a few more nods to Dark Souls too with multiplayer elements in the form of graffiti allowing players to leave messages for others in the world.
The Surge 2 is coming to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on September 24.
