The Settlers was on track to make its return this month on PC, but it looks like that won't be happening on the account of player feedback from a recent Closed Beta. Translation, it wasn't well received. "As we went through this feedback," writes a post on Twitter. "It became clear to our team that the quality wasn't yet in line with the team's vision."
Hello dear “The Settlers” fans, we would like to share an important update with you. pic.twitter.com/zxEXZS2pme
Feedback from those that participated in the Closed Beta, specifically fans of The Settlers and strategy games as a whole, cited poor AI, simplified systems, and a lack of depth and complexity. Compared to Age of Empires IV, which remained true to the spirit and feel of the series, the overall sentiment was definitely not that.
Postponing the launch so close to release and without providing a new date does bring up a lot of questions. As per the announcement time will be spent improving the game, perhaps even going as far as making fundamental changes to design. As per the trailer below the visual side looks solid and impressive so here's hoping the end product feels like a proper reboot.
