Some MMOs lock you into specific archetypes with equally specific abilities and specialities, The Secret World, however, does not.

Funcom's modern MMO is tipping its weight in the "breaking MMO rules" camp by providing new and interesting ways for players to not only progress their character in a freeform way, but also craft an utterly unique avatar for the game, separating you from everyone else in the playing.

It's not just about choosing abilities and the like willy-nilly though, as specific abilities will work better with others, promoting a sense of synergy among powers, and promoting experimentation for players.

Watch the new video embedded below, or click here for a direct link. And be sure to check out our video interview with Funcom's Joel Bylos for even more, right here.

Sounds a lot like guild wars, in terms of the mechanics.

It'll at least be a serious contender to Guild Wars 2. I'll still be playing SWTOR for a while to come yet as well, never a good idea starting multiple MMOs :\

I'm just hoping it's as good as it's looking, Age of Conan and Anarchy Online sounded great on paper.....

Just seems like 500 skills to choose from is going to lead to a lot of imbalance and confusion in the game. Though I do like the idea of freeform progression.

Looks interesting but you will get cookie cutter builds soon after release and thats all you will see.
