With Microsoft's acquisition of Activision Blizzard, many began wondering what it meant for the future of
Call of Duty. A series that in recent years has consistently been a best-seller on PlayStation consoles -- with PS4 and PS5 being the lead platforms for exclusive CoD content. With Phil Spencer confirming that existing deals will be upheld, today comes word that those deals stipulate that there's plenty of CoD to come for PlayStation fans.
In a new report
over at Bloomberg citing "people with knowledge of the deal" as sources, Activision is already committed to making the next few Call of Duty games available on Sony platforms. The deal includes this year' Call of Duty - which has yet to be announced - in addition to 2023's, and a new version/sequel to Call of Duty Warzone. The popular free-to-play battle royale that will probably be supported on all platforms indefinitely.
As for game beyond the 2023 timeline things get a little hazy. The Microsoft acquisition is set to formalise and "go live" sometime mid to late next year -- and it's only after that time Team Xbox can make actual concrete decisions. That said there's an expectation that the $68.7 billion deal will lead to exclusivity and franchises like Call of Duty becoming a key part of Xbox moving forward -- including Xbox Game Pass.
