During their latest Nintendo Direct live-streamed press conference event, Nintendo has announced a direct sequel to the acclaimed Super Nintendo era Zelda title, The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, for the Nintendo 3DS portable console.

The game doesn't have an official title yet, but it does have a few screenshots that feature some familiar enemies and environments. The art style might seem a little off to fans of the original, but hopefully the mechanics and dungeon puzzles will be more faithful.
The game makes use of the 3D abilities of Nintendo 3DS, and allows Link to become a drawing and move within walls.
The new game is scheduled to arrive on Nintendo 3ds "towards the end of the year".

Anyone know when the release date for this is? Is it the Christmas holiday period, or mid-year (US) holiday period?
