And to accompany the release date announcement Sony and Naughty Dog have released a new cinematic trailer. That, yes, looks incredible with the sort of detail in the environments, characters, and animation that makes you wonder just what the next-generation of consoles will need to do to top it. Of course this is all in service of the story, setting, and continuing Ellie's emotionally charged journey.
In a new post, Creative Director at Naughty Dog, Neil Druckmann, notes:
"Thank you for being patient with us. Very patient. Even though we’ve been eager to share more about The Last of Us Part II and tell you its release date, we wanted to wait until we were close to wrapping up production and we were confident in the date itself."
The wait, as they say, was worth it.
The Last of Us Part II has been in development for five years and the studio has spent that time creating an experience that lives up to the promise of the original. According to Druckman, The Last of Us Part II will tell a "nuanced story that deals with the core question: how far would you go to exact justice against the people that hurt the ones you love?"
As is the way of things, alongside this new stunning look at the game, The Last of Us Part II Standard Edition, Special Edition, Digital Deluxe Edition and Collector’s Edition were announced.
The Collector's Edition, picture above, comes with:
Full game and Steelbook case
12" Ellie statue
48-page mini art book from Dark Horse
Ellie's bracelet
Lithograph art print and Thank You letter
Set of 5 stickers
Set of 6 enamel pins
And is currently available for pre-order at EB Games for $299.95. For details on the rest of the editions - head here.
The Last of Us Part II is out February 21, 2020 exclusively for PlayStation 4.
