Set to premiere sometime in 2023 on HBOMax (or Binge for us in Australia), HBO's The Last of Us adaptation just got its first full trailer (or extended teaser) - and it looks damn good. This is to be expected when you factor in that the award-winning creator of HBO's brilliant Chernobyl series, Craig Mazin, is involved.
With The Last of Us game director and Naughty Dog co-president, Neil Druckmann, serving as executive producer. Even if you are unfamiliar with the game, this trailer makes it clear that the dramatic cinematic presentation of the game could translate into TV gold.
Check it out.
The story takes place twenty years after modern civilisation has been destroyed. Joel, a hardened survivor, is hired to smuggle Ellie, a 14-year-old girl, out of an oppressive quarantine zone. What starts as a small job soon becomes a brutal, heartbreaking journey, as they both must traverse across the U.S. and depend on each other for survival.
As per the official synopsis above, the setting sounds pretty much exactly like that of the first game - though we do know that there will be deviations and changes to how the story unfolds. The Last of Us series features Pedro Pascal (The Mandalorian) as Joel and Bella Ramsey (Game of Thrones) as Ellie.
