"The Heretics and not only real... but powerful", so opens the new trailer for Graven -- a new action-adventure FPS from 3D Realms, 1C Entertainment and developer Slipgate Ironworks. And yeah, the Heretic and Hexen vibes are for real but the visuals strike a very cool balance between modern and retro. This is definitely worth a look.
Journey into dreary Cruxfirth as an exiled Priest. Conjure powerful sorceries like searing flames and wild lightning to creatively solve environmental puzzles. Wield conventional weaponry like wrist-mounted crossbows and peat launchers to slay horrid beasts and plagued mad men.
Graven is currently available to play on PC in Early Access form on PC via Steam, GOG, and the Epic Games Store. This version includes the first of three planned regions, "a rotting swamptown suffering from a plague that ends either in death or violent madness" called Cruxfirth. Graven isn't a straight up shooter either, it features a design inspired by sims and action-RPGs. Which means various magic abilities and wrist-bound projectile weaponry will be purchased and upgraded along the way. And various potions too.
Co-op is also on the cards, and playable in split-screen. Very cool.
“For 3D Realms, Early Access has been instrumental in making sure we make the best possible games for fans of classic titles like Hexen,” said Frederik Schreiber, vice president of 3D Realms and Game Director on Graven. “The reception to GRAVEN’s demo at Steam Game Festival floored us, and now Early Access will bring even more depth to Cruxfirth.”
The Early Access version will several updates throughout the year with version 1.0 set to hit PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch in 2022.
