Bethesda has revealed a loyalty program for its MMO The Elder Scrolls Online, designed to reward those who subscribe to the game for an extended period of time.

The developer announced the first such reward will take the form of a High Hrothgar Wriath vanity pet, and will be emailed to anyone who's subscribed to the game for a combined time of three months or more in September. These three months don't include the month of time that comes free when you purchase the game.

"There’s so much more on the horizon, but we think it’s important to give some special recognition to those of you who have already been there every step of the way," a post reads. "The loyalty program will keep expanding over time, so keep an eye out for more tokens of our gratitude if you’re a longtime player. Our next reward will be granted for those who have subscribed for six months — we’ll reveal it to you soon."

The system definitely sounds awfully free-to-play like, with a number of free MMO's utilising a loyalty program to reward those who choose to spend money in a in-game store or subscribe. Those who aren't subscribed at the moment can take up the rewards once they meet the requirements.

i don't know how such "tokens of gratitude" can be taken seriously. it's a "reward" for players that have stuck with the game they say... but anyone who has played the game for a while would realise that the pets are not beneficial, they are a waste of a precious inventory slot. i got the email & ignored it.. the pet stays in the email & doesn't consume an inventory slot. it's beyond me why anyone would want a dopey 'pet' following them around & doing f*** all else.

a nicer reward would be maybe a free month of play imo.
