Along with a new gameplay trailer, Bethesda has today committed to an April 4th 2014 release date for the PC and Mac versions of its forthcoming MMO, The Elder Scrolls Online. Although the game is still also coming to both PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, console gamers will have to wait a couple of months longer for the less specific 'June 2014' date.

North American pricing has previously been set uniformly at US$59.99 on all platform with a mandatory subscription requesting a further US$14.99/€12.99/£8.99 each month thereafter. Australian-specific pricing has still yet to be confirmed.

Will be interesting to see how both Elder Scrolls and WIldStar head, as they'll be essentially competing with Guild Wars 2 now, rather than World of Warcraft. Obviously it will indirectly be competing with any MMO on the market, but I feel like the two titles will rather be looking at toppling Guild Wars 2's three million+ numbers than trying to go against the juggernaut that has yet to fall.

I'm actually really excited for the MMO genre, especially with so many MMOs now popping up that look to be challenging the norm and offering true next-gen gameplay. Titles like EverQuest Next Landmark which actually are next-gen, or WildStar which looks to be going back to the MMO roots with challenging gameplay should really mix up the genre and make things less "WoW-ish".
