With
Bethesda taking
to Reddit to confirm that development on new content and expansions for competitive card-game
The Elder Scrolls: Legends has ceased. And it sounds pretty definitive too, with the statement noting, "We decided to put any new content development or releases on hold for the foreseeable future."
Released in 2017 for PC and mobile devices, the game found some popularity but failed to maintain player interest in the same way that Blizzard has managed with Hearthstone. In fact, with the
recent news that Gwent was moving away from consoles and Valve's Artifact failing almost immediately - the CCG or competitive card-game is one genre with very few success stories.
With a number of expansion sets release for The Elder Scrolls: Legends since 2017, the title also had some major changes happen in the background. With development duties shifting from Dire Wolf Digital to Sparkypants Studios in 2018, some major changes to the UI and presentation saw a number of teething issues caused by this transition. Forcing Bethesda to fix and change and update the game in a way that felt reminiscent of the Beta.
As it currently stands The Elder Scrolls: Legends is still very much playable with Bethesda noting that support will continue - but, with no new content coming.
You can still download and play Legends on all existing platforms and compete online as well as in the single-player modes. We will also continue to support the game with monthly reward cards and regular in-game events. New expansions and other future content, however, are no longer under active development.
