Harpoon in-hand and bull shark not more than two metres from our rowboat, I took aim and speared the hulking fish. But this only angered him, a point made all the more dramatic with the pool of blood now spreading out across the surface of the crystal blue waters. And with that, the shark takes off with a thud, dragging our tiny boat behind its anger-induced strength. I've only a handful of harpoons to take him out, but a few misses gives him a chance to compose himself, turn and come full-force at the boat. We brace.

This isn't even an excerpt from my hands-on with Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag, but is a short enticement for you to get in and read the preview proper, because what Ubi has geared with this latest entry is plunderous.

I'm a PC gamer, so I'm all mouse and keyboard through and through. But for those few times in life where I'm forced to use a controller at a friends house for a night of consoling foolery, I too am struck by the idiosyncrasy that is the f%#&ed up nature of the default controller settings. My friends sigh and moan about how I have to change the settings to inverted, as though I'm some alien whose completely backward in the head. I thought I was the only one who plays inverted, but I found out Chet from Valve is the same, and now you Steve. Perhaps we're just far superior beings that live amongst the simple minded sheep that fill this tiny blue planet.

ahhhh if there is a setting for you to change the controls then there is a significant population of gamers who are retards.

But seriously, it's not controversial or anything. It's how you prefer it and that's ok. Everyone is different.

Here at Ausgamers we accept everyone. Homos, jews, arabs, transvestites and yes even inverted controls gamers.

My argument is this: you're playing looking forward with your avatar right? Now, put an imaginary thumbstick on the back/top of your head. Which way would you push to look up and which way to look down?

Tis a pet peeve of mine when gameplay demos don't have an option to toggle camera control orientation. Crazy that it can be an afterthought in such an established and iterated franchise.

I just went and fired up AC3 to where ever early in the game I stopped playing. Wow that game is buggy. I didn't remember it being that bad.

Ok so what happens when you push this thumbstick to the left or right?
