Super Smash Bros. was the theme for this morning's Nintendo Direct stream, with a vast amount of information spilled on just what to expect for the handheld and home console versions including brand new character reveals and stage overviews.

Among the more bigger news items, Nintendo took the time this morning to reveal that eager players can expect the new Smash Bros on 3DS this Winter, while the home console version will be appearing later in the year during Summer 2014. According to franchise creator Masahiro Sakurai both versions are “packed with content”, and the team “needs time to do them justice”. The 3DS version runs at 60FPS, all in stereoscopic 3D, he added. Some trophies will move at 30FPS, Sakurai said, but all fighters are locked at 60FPS.

According to the stream all characters will be available for both versions, though stages will vary between platforms. On 3DS, every stage will have two pieces of background music, while on Wii U you can browse a library of past soundtracks to choose your own tunes. As with multiplayer, both version will contain an online portion to verse various players around the world, however Sakurai did state that those wanting the best connection should head to the Wii U.

CHaracter-wise, the presentation revealed a number of new faces but also showcased some changes to old ones. New characters include Charizard and Greninja, while Samus, Zelda and a handful of others have had some tweaks to their usual set list.

Check out the full stream below for a far more in-depth look, or if you prefer written format VG247 has a great writeup on all the details so far.
