That were lovingly recreated by a team of 16-contributors that manually re-drew all the lo-fi Super Mario 64 textures to make them 4K-ready. And how! The results are damn impressive, with the unofficial PC port of the game looking as good as any remaster you could hope for.

As we reported back in May this is not an emulated version of the game, but the reverse engineered code rebuilt in Unreal to run on modern PCs. An executable that brings up Mario 64 with the option to play the game at 4K 60 frames-per-second on modest hardware.

Of course being unofficial, Nintendo has every right to pursue the removal of the project and any relevant video demonstrations like this. But hey, as one of the all-time greats it's not every day you get to see a game from your youth presented in a way that lives up to your memory of it. Seeing those painting textures not be all blurry for the first time, yeah, very cool.
