And sure that's the same headline we attributed to our recent review of the SteelSeries Rival 3 gaming mouse but the new SteelSeries Apex 3 keyboard offers a similar proposition - affordable input with style to spare.

When it comes to gaming keyboards we’re living in the age of the mechanical switch, where quality and feel varies wildly between different styles and brands. Clicky, low profile, silent, and so forth. But, that’s also a sentiment that needs a little clarification – purchasing a mechanical keyboard, one designed specifically for gaming, comes with a cost of entry. One that is often far higher than its input counterpart, the old mouse. The SteelSeries Apex 3 from well-known brand SteelSeries represents the most affordable gaming keyboard in the company’s Apex range – the result being the inclusion of “SteelSeries Whisper-Quiet Switches”. Translation, membrane or rubber-dome.

Of course, this isn’t to say that a good keyboard can only be mechanical, but it’s to highlight that when it comes to performance there is a difference in feel and responsiveness between the two. Fresh out of its packaging though, the Apex 3 is as impressive as it is affordable. Solid and durable construction with the whisper-quiet branding of the switches being just that. Plus, the pleasant addition of decent performance across the various games we tested it with.
