Following their recent Captivate 2012 event, Capcom have revealed that their upcoming Kinect-exclusive mech-combat game (sorry, vertical-tank combat game) -- previously thought to be a completely solo experience -- will now include a four player online cooperative mode.
Steel Battalion Heavy Armor introduces a brand new four player online co-op mode via Xbox LIVE®. Work together with your friends on a variety of maps to destroy a set amount of enemies and unlock new items to customize your VT with. In addition to this, you can unlock Achievements by playing Score Attack mode where you and your friends will be rated based on performance.
If working with friends to destroy a set amount of enemies doesn't sound overly enticing, you can check out some multiplayer gameplay in action in these two new trailers.

The original Steel Battalion on Xbox is remembered for it's ridiculously large custom-controller, but Heavy Armour has caught the interest of the games press as one of the only Kinect-exclusives titles that seems to be geared towards actual gamers. Unlike most of the casual-friendly Kinect library, Steel Battalion is designed to be played sitting down with a control-pad in hand, using Kinect guestures to augment the button experience, rather than replace it.
Steel Battalion Heavy Armor delivers an unprecedented level of control and interaction. VT movement, aiming and firing of the main guns are undertaken using the Xbox 360 controller. A wide variety of other combat-crucial actions are done through Kinect for Xbox 360 with upper body gestures - from starting the engine, to operating the scope or manning the turret-mounted machine gun. Kinect for Xbox 360 also provides a means of interacting with your fellow crew members, from ensuring a panicked crew member stays focused, to a high five for successfully completing a mission.
Watch the clips below for an idea of how this is intended to work in a multiplayer game.

Steel Battalion: Heavy Armor is due exclusively on Xbox 360 with Kinect on June 19th 2012.

Damn, my first thought when I saw multiplayer was multiple people manning the one tank/mech thing, that could have been interesting
